Every year, the Ateneo HEIGHTS Writers Workshop (AHWW) and the Ateneo HEIGHTS Artists Workshop (AHAW) select outstanding students for multi-day workshops, where fellows are mentored by several established artists and writers. Fellows can improve their craft, receive expert guidance, and have their works exhibited online.

HEIGHTS is now accepting applications to the 26th Ateneo HEIGHTS Writers Workshop (AHWW), which will be held on February 25 and 27-28, 2020. This is an annual workshop that offers ten to sixteen writers a chance to develop their creative potential through discussions with established poets, fictionists, essayists, and playwrights in the Philippine literary community. The workshop aims to guide and nurture young talents by developing their writing, and culminates in the publication of a chapbook to celebrate the growth of the ten chosen writers’ craft.

The workshop is open to current students of the Loyola Schools. Interested applicants must email a .zip file with the name “[Surname]_AHWW26” containing the following:

  • A portfolio of any of the following (note that applicants may only choose one genre):
  • Poetry: 3-5 poems
  • Fiction: 2 short stories
  • Non-Fiction: 2 essays
  • Plays: 2 one-act plays or 2 excerpts from a longer play
  • We accept works in both English and Filipino. Each work should be no longer than 5000 words and submitted in both .docx and .pdf format.
  • A 1-2 page Introductory Essay answering the following:
  • Briefly explain the conceptual project of your portfolio.
  • What are you hoping to say with your works?
  • What is your motivation for writing?
  • What themes do you usually write about?
  • When and how did you start writing?
  • What inspires you to write?
  • Where do you want your writing to go next?
  • What do you expect to learn in the workshop?
  • The essay should be submitted in .pdf format, following TNR 12, 1.5 spacing.
  • A .pdf file that answers the following:
  • Full Name:
  • Nickname:
  • Year and Course:
  • Mobile Number:
  • Genre:
  • List of the works submitted and the day they were finished (e.g. “No Title”: June, 2015)
  • Send all entries to with the subject title “AHWW26 - Application.” The deadline for applications is on December 19, 2020, 11:59 PM.
